It has a bowl and a hex nut, combination. They are designed to be a permanent fixture after installation. The hexagonal part of the nut shears off at a pre-determined torque leaving only a tamperproof non-removeable cone. Available in either bright zinc plated steel (EN1A) or stainless steel (304).

Shear Nuts are available produced from A2 stainless steel, or from steel with zinc plated or hot dip galvanized, which is resiatant galvanized finish. Shear nuts provide a cost-effective solution to deter various forms of theft, particularly the unauthorized removal or relocation of objects, such as seating or other valuable items. The installation process involves using standard tools. Once the nut or bolt is fully tightened, the hex drive head is designed to shear off when additional torque is applied. This leaves the shear bolt or the threaded conical lower collar of the shear nut in place on the standard bolt or stud thread, effectively rendering the secured items permanently fixed and resistant to tampering or theft.
